bodytemperatureina4yearold,mayberegardedasafeverinanewborn.Braun’sAgePrecision™
thermometerisanageadjustablethermometerwithapatentedFeverInsight®colour-codeddisplay.
Itusesmedicalguidelinestointerprettemperatureandtakestheguessworkoutofinterpreting
temperaturefortheentirefamily.
• Temperaturereadingsvarydependingonthesiteofmeasurement.Anoraltemperatureisgenerally
0.1°C higher than underarm (axillary) temperature and rectal temperature is generally 0.6°C higher than
underarm temperature.1,2
Braun’s Age Precision™ feature is optimized for underarm temperature taking.
• Temperaturereadingsvaryfrompersontoperson.Thebestmethodtodetermineyourownnormal
temperatureistousethethermometerwhenyouarefeelingwell.Recordyourreadingtwiceaday
(earlymorningandlateafternoon).Taketheaverageofthetwotemperatures.Thisisconsideredyour
normalbodytemperature.Anyvariationfromitmayindicatesomesortofillnessandyoushould
consult your physician.
Itisimportanttorememberfeverisasymptom,notadisease,andisjustoneofthemanypossiblesignsof

How to Use Your Braun Age Precision™ Thermometer
3 Simple Steps:
1. Switch on the thermometer by pressing the On/O button
Youwillhearashortbeepanddisplaysegmentcheckwillbeperformed.Afterthesegmentcheck,last
temperaturereadingwillbedisplayedfor2seconds.Subsequently,theageiconsandagerangewill
cycle,untiltheAgePrecisionbuttonispressed.
2. Select the age by pressing the AgePrecision™ button
WhentheAgePrecision™buttonispressed,theagerangeiconswillstopcycling,andstopontheage
range icon that was showing when the button was pressed. Keep pressing the button until the desired
agesettingisdisplayed.Thethermometerhas3agesettings:
• 0-3months
• 3-36months
• 36monthsuptoanadult
Aftertheageisselected,theagerangeiconremainssteadilylit.
Thedisplaywillshowthreedashedlinesandthethermometer
is ready to start the measurement.
3. Take the measurement by placing it on the measurement site.
Oncetemperatureriseisdetectedbythermometerinmeasurementmode,itwillbegintomeasure.
Ifthethermometerdoesn’tmeasureatemperaturerise,theageiconandthreedashedlineswillbe
shown until the thermometer automatically turns o.
Aftermeasurement(generally8secondsaftertemperaturechangeisdetected),theconrmation
beepindicatesthatanaccuratetemperaturemeasurementhasbeentaken:1longbeepfornormal
temperature,10shortbeepsforelevatedandhightemperature.Theresultwillbeshownonthe
display.InterpretthereadingwiththehelpofthecolourcodedFeverInSight®displaythatusesmedical
guidelinestointerprettemperaturebasedontheageofthepatients.
Note:Usershavetoshutdownthethermometerandstartupagaintotakeanothermeasurementand/or
changeagesetting.TheBraunAgePrecision™thermometerturnsoautomatically
20secondsafterthemeasurementorafter90secondswithoutmeasurement.
Reading the measurement with Fever InSight® Colour Coded Display
BraunAgePrecision™ThermometercomeswiththepatentedFeverInSight®displaythatoersacolour
indication along with the temperature readout and helps you better understand the temperature reading
basedonpatients’age.
- Green backlight indicates readingnormal
- Yellowbacklightindicateselevated temperature
- Redbacklightindicateshigh temperature
TheFeverInSight®colourcodeddisplayforinterpretingfeverhasbeendesignedforuseintheunderarm
mode only according to the table below.

Tips for Measuring at Dierent Sites
Under-the-arm (axillary) use
Thismethodisusedforbabiesandyoungchildren.
1. Wipe the underarm with a dry towel.
2.Placetheprobetipunderthearmsothetipistouchingtheskinandpositionthepatient’sarmnextto
thepatient’sbody(Fig.1).
Withayoungchild,itissometimeshelpfultohugthechildtokeeptheirarmnexttotheirbody.This
ensures that the room air does not aect the reading.
3.Whenthepeaktemperatureisreached,beepsignalswillsound.Thetemperatureisnowconrmed.
Whenthethermometerisremovedfromthemeasuringsite,associatedFeverInsight™colourwilldisplay.
4.Turnothethermometerandcleanasrecommendedbelow.

Oral use
Thismethodissuitableforchildrenwhoareoldenoughtosafelykeepthethermometerinsidethemouth.
1.Itisimportanttoplacethetipofthethermometerwellunderthetongueoneithersidetogetagood,
accuratereading.Placesensortipinareasmarkedwith“√”underthetongue(Fig.2).Keeppatient’s
mouth closed and make him/her sit still to help ensure an accurate measurement.
2.Whenthepeaktemperatureisreached,beepsignalswillsound.Thetemperatureisnowconrmed.
Whenthethermometerisremovedfromthemeasuringsite,associatedFeverInsight™colourwilldisplay.
3. Turnothethermometerandcleanasrecommendedbelow.
Rectal use
Commonlyusedforbabies,youngchildren,orwhenitisdiculttotakeanoralorunderarmtemperature.
1.Coverthethermometer’stipwithaprobecoverandlubricatewithawater-solublejellyforeasier
insertion.
Donotuseapetroleumjelly.Readthelabelofthelubricanttobesureyouareusingtherightkind.
2.Laythepatientonhis/herside.Ifthepatientisaninfant,theproperpositionforababyistolayonits
stomachwithlegshangingdown,eitheracrossyourkneesorattheedgeofabedorchangingtable.
Thispositionstheinfant’srectumforsafeandeasyinsertionofthethermometer.
3.Gentlyinsertthetipofthethermometer 1.3cmor1/2inchintotherectum.IfyouNO MORE THAN
detectresistance,stop.Holdthethermometerinplaceduringmeasurement.
4.Whenthepeaktemperatureisreached,beepsignalswillsound.Thetemperatureisnowconrmed.
Whenthethermometerisremovedfromthemeasuringsite,associatedFeverInsight™colourwilldisplay.
5.Turnothethermometerandcleanasrecommendedbelow.
Memory
Whenthethermometeristurnedon,thedisplaywillshowatest,afterwhichthelastmeasured
temperaturewillbeshownforapproximately1second.Letter“M”willbedisplayednexttothe
temperature reading.
Changing the Temperature Scale
Withpowero,pressandholdtheOn/Obuttonforabout5secondsuntil“---“withasteady“°C”or
“°F”appearsonscreen.ReleaseandpresstheOn/Obuttonagaintoswitchfromthecurrentscaletothe
alternatescaleandrelease.Afterabout3secondstheunitisreadyfortakingtemperatureinthechosen
scale and the age range icons start to scroll.
Care and Cleaning
• Cleantheprobetipbywashingwithsoapandwarmwaterorbydisinfectingwithrubbingalcohol(70%
isopropyl alcohol).
• Wipedrywithsoftcloth.
• DO NOT BOIL OR CLEAN IN DISHWASHER.Thiswillcausethethermometertonolongerfunctionand
will void the warranty.
