Social Distancing with UHF and UWB Devices Application
Note
Introduction
This application note describes a Social Distancing (SD) application to measure and track distances between SD
devices (up to five) using Microchip's UHF and UWB technologies. These technologies offer low-power solutions for
longer battery life. The purpose of this application is to raise an alarm if the distance falls below a threshold value for
a predefined time.
Features
• ATA8510 UHF Transceiver for Communication to Other Devices at 433 MHz or 868 MHz
• ATA8350 Ultra-Wide-Band (UWB) Transceiver for Distance Measurement at 7 GHz
• AIS2DW12 Motion Sensor for Movement Detection
• ATtiny3217 Host MCU for Application Control
• Supports Tracking Up to Four Other Devices within 3m x 3m Area
• Generates an Alarm by LED Flashing and Buzzer when the Distance Between Two Devices is Less than 1.5m
or 2m for More than 5 Seconds
• Optional Saving of Contact IDs in Serial Flash Device (SST25PF040C)
• Operates with a LIR2540 or CR2540 Coin Cell Battery for More than a Week
• Optional USB Li-Ion Charger (MIC79110) for Li-Ion or Li-Po Accumulator with 3V Regulator (MIC5306) instead
of Coin Cell
